Why I Care About Equity in Education

For me, equity in education isn’t just a buzzword or a policy line—it’s personal. I’ve seen how much a supportive adult, a fair opportunity, or a small adjustment in the system can change the direction of someone’s life.

Working in schools and studying human relations has shown me both sides: the moments where students feel seen and supported, and the moments where they slip through the cracks because the system wasn’t built with them in mind.

When I think about equity, I’m thinking about the student who needs extra time, the family who doesn’t fully understand the system, or the colleague who’s carrying more than anyone realizes. Equity means designing our classrooms, policies, and expectations with real people in mind—not an imaginary “average” student.

This blog is one small way I process what I’m learning and what I’m seeing. My hope is that by reflecting honestly, I can keep growing—and maybe help others think differently about the spaces they work and learn in.
